We warmly invite you to visit us.
We welcome families who are interested in joining our school and encourage you to contact us to arrange your visit.
We encourage prospective parents/guardians and pupils to attend one or more of our virtual open events, which include tours from our pupils. Our virtual Stay & Play taster sessions for pre-school children allow parents and children to familiarise themselves with our Early Years staff, activities and setting. We also offer virtual meetings with members of the Senior Leadership Team. We will resume visits in person as soon as we are permitted to do so.
Register your interest
The next step in our admissions process for all ages is to complete our registration form to confirm your interest. There is a fee (currently £50) that accompanies this process which is non-returnable.
Taster Days (Year 7 upwards only)
Once registered, all pupils looking to enter the school from Year 7 upwards will be invited to visit St Joseph’s for a taster day. They will spend a normal school day with an existing pupil, joining in with classes and activities. Prospective pupils find these days a fantastic way to get to know what life is like at St Joseph’s. Taster Days are available to those who have registered and paid their required £50 registration fee.
Following registration, an assessment will take place appropriate to the age of the child. On the satisfactory completion of this assessment a place may be formally offered. A waiting list operates once all places are allocated.
When a place is offered, a deposit of £500 is payable when the offer is accepted. This deposit will be retained until your child leaves the school at the end of Year 6 or Year 13, when it will be credited to the final account for fees and any extras which may be due at that time. The deposit is not refundable if a child does not take up a place at the school.
We recommend attendance at one of our regular Virtual Open Events held throughout the year, which offer parents and children an opportunity to find out more about the College and speak to the Headmaster and staff.
Early Years Admissions
Attendance at one of our Virtual Open Days is the best way to find out more about Early Years at the school, and is recommended for all parents and carers of children aged four and under. For parents of two year olds we also offer Stay and Play sessions for you and your child.
The next step is registration to confirm your interest. Places in Early Years are offered, subject to availability, on a first come first served basis and taking into account our admissions criteria. There is high demand for places in Early Years and you are advised to register early if you are interested.
Once registered, your child will be invited into school for a half day visit. During this time an assessment will take place appropriate to the age of the child.
Places in Early Years are offered for children to join from the beginning of the half term in which they turn three, subject to an individual assessment.
The minimum weekly attendance for children in Early Years 1 is two full school days (8.20am to 3.20pm) or three mornings (8.20am to 1.00pm). This rises to a minimum of three full school days or five mornings in Early Years 2.
Stay & Play
Monthly, virtual Stay and Play sessions are ideal for two year olds with a parent or carer, and offer an opportunity for children to create, play, sing and hear stories. Adults can sit down with a cup of tea or coffee whilst seeing how your little ones enjoy a variety of themed activities, guided virtually by our Early Years teacher. Each child will receive a home delivered, personalised activity box prior to the session, packed full with everything they need to take part. The sessions run from 9.15am until 10.00am and booking is essential.
Years 1 - 6 Admissions
Whilst the majority of children join us at the age of three in Early Years, pupils may be considered for entry into Reception or other year groups, should places become available.
For children wishing to join in Reception to Year 6, we offer private visits. The next step is registration to confirm your interest. Places in Years 1 – 6 are offered subject to availability, and most classes are currently running a registration list. Once registered, your child will be invited into school for a half day or full day visit when a place becomes available. During this time an assessment will take place appropriate to the age of the child.
Year 7 Admissions
Year 7 applications are welcomed and entry is dependent on passing the entrance assessment and a satisfactory report from the applicant’s current school.
An entrance assessment for Year 7 is held in January for entry the following September, for all registered pupils. This consists of an English comprehension and essay, Mathematics questions and a Verbal Reasoning test. The Headmaster is happy to meet applicants before they take the entrance assessment. This can be arranged by signing up for one of our Virtual Open Days or by contacting us for a private visit.
Sixth Form Admissions
Entry into Year 12 is dependent upon an interview with the Headmaster and the Head of Sixth Form and a satisfactory report from the applicant’s current school. The academic standard is normally a minimum of five good GCSE grades.
We recommend that prospective Sixth Form students book an individual visit to St Joseph’s for a tour of the school and a chance to meet the Headmaster. Our Sixth Form Registration Form will then need to be completed and returned to the school with a photo and the £50 registration fee.
Year 5 Days
In June each year, Year 5 pupils from local primary and prep schools are invited to spend a day at St Joseph’s College to find out what it’s like to be part of our senior school. The day is a great opportunity for children to meet other pupils who may be interested in joining St Joseph’s, and to experience special lessons alongside our current Year 7 pupils. There are also opportunities to take part in active or creative challenges.
The day is open to all and does not require application for a place at St Joseph’s beforehand, however it is not a substitute for a regular Taster Day, which we would advise all prospective pupils to attend once they have completed their registration.
Unfortunately, due to the current government guidelines regarding COVID-19, we have had to cancel our Year 5 day this year.
We believe that the opportunity to spend a day at the College is a fantastic way for prospective pupils to a get a feel for what life is like at St Joseph’s. Therefore, we will be inviting current Year 5’s to attend a virtual Taster Day in the autumn term instead.
