Year 11 pupil Ronnie has been named St Joseph’s College Poet Laureate 2025, following the school’s very first Poet Laureate Competition. The competition, judged by Ms Jeffery (Head of English), Mrs Holdcroft and Ms Bobela, invited students to write an original poem based on the theme ‘Belonging’.
Ronnie’s winning piece, Classroom Mosaic, explores the beauty of individuality and unity within the St Joseph’s community. His poem captures how, despite our differences and the challenges each of us faces, we all come together to create something whole – a place where everyone belongs.
Ronnie first performed Classroom Mosaic at last year’s Prize Giving Ceremony. His words perfectly embodied the inclusive spirit of the College, celebrating diversity, compassion, and shared purpose.
Speaking about his inspiration, Ronnie said:
“I wrote this poem trying to incorporate the theme throughout the piece. It explores how everyone, no matter how different or what rough experiences they’ve been through, will always be a part of St Joseph’s“
As Poet Laureate, Ronnie will write and present a special poem for this year’s Founders’ Day celebrations before passing on the baton to the next Poet Laureate at the Prize Giving Ceremony in July.
Congratulations to Ronnie for his outstanding achievement and for setting such a wonderful standard for future St Joseph’s poets.
