Years 1 – 6

Education transcends mere exam results; it encompasses more than the fundamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic. It’s the interplay between curiosity and knowledge that brings out the best in every child. We instil in our pupils the confidence to pose questions and a thirst for understanding not just ‘what,’ but ‘how’ and ‘why.’

In Years 1 and 2, students build upon the foundation laid in Pre-Reception and Reception, fostering greater independence both personally and academically. Our teachers curate rich and stimulating lessons, providing exciting opportunities for hands-on problem-solving and exploration. Pupils continue to benefit from specialised instruction in PE, Music, and French, and they begin to explore the wonders of the Senior School art room, science labs and ICT suites as well as the sporting facilities of the University of Reading.

English and Mathematics Development

Students are introduced to a diverse array of literary genres, with teachers sharing their passion for the enchantment of reading. Spelling and grammar rules are taught, and phonic knowledge is solidified. Pupils cultivate excellent mental math skills and learn how to apply mathematical concepts to real-world problem-solving. They are encouraged to employ various methods and strategies and articulate their reasoning. By the end of Year 2, students are well-equipped and prepared for the challenges of the Junior Department.

Years 3 – 6 Curriculum

Pupils in Years 3 – 6 experience a dynamic and captivating curriculum, with lessons delivered by their form tutors and subject specialists. The small class sizes create an environment where children receive both support and challenges in a nurturing setting.
