Celebrating European Day of Languages 2022

26.09.2022

The College celebrated the European Day of Languages this week, with a whole day full of language-related activities.

The day was launched in tutor time with a video created by our A level Spanish students showcasing the wide range of languages spoken within the St Joseph’s community.

At breaktime, the entries for the cake competition were judged by the Languages staff, with Prep prizes awarded to Jasmine in Year 3, Lauren and Michael in Year 4 and Tumi in Year 5.

Lower Seniors prizes were awarded to Delphine and Annabel in Year 7 and, in Upper Seniors, were awarded to Aurora in Year 9 and Carys Year 10. Aurora had made a delicious nut free Battenburg cake decorated with flags from around the European community.

” It took me quite a long time, it was about five hours in the end, but I really enjoyed making it! Aurora, Year 9

At lunch a very European spread was provided by caterers Thomas Franks, with favourites such as boeuf bourguignon and crêpes suzette on the menu.

Throughout the day, there was an all school European themed Kahoot quiz and, during lunch break, pupils had a languages sweet shop challenge, where students had to identify 15 different world languages and learn how to ask for sweets in one of them.

Muchas gracias to all the teaching staff, caterers Thomas Franks and pupils who worked so hard to make this day such a brilliant success!
