World Book Day inspires

04.03.2022

Throughout the week leading up to World Book Day, pupils from across the College have been taking part in fireside reading sessions with Mrs Stotesbury, Mrs Donald and other English teachers. Seated comfortably on bean bags with a hot chocolate, they have been treated to extracts from the guest storytellers’ favourite books.

Books shared by our storytellers have included ‘Room on a Broom’ by Julia Donaldson, ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl, and ‘The Wolf Wilder’ by Katherine Rundell.

Instead of homework this week, pupils have been set the task of reading each evening and have been given special postcards to record what they have read.

On World Book Day itself, Year 6 led a special assembly where they shared extracts from a variety of their favourite books and pupils and teachers enjoyed dressing up.

In Senior School, a ‘character treasure hunt’ took place and pupils in Years 7 – 9 spent break and lunchtime searching for staff members who were wearing special badges identifying them as the characters. All those pupils who managed to complete the hunt were treated to some chocolate and house points.

Year 7 pupils headed to the library for English lessons and took part in a Murder Mystery……the library assistant had been killed and they had to solve the crime!

And of course, the best bit…real life costumes are back! Lots of the children and teachers teachers got into the spirit of things and dressed up as their favourite characters – we hope you enjoy the pictures!
